Documentary which goes against the Nichols Modes

I have chosen a documentary which more or less goes against the Nichols theory of traditional modes of documentary, this production is called ‘Not My President’ by Julian Marshall. It shows the American public going against Donald Trumps new power of the country. I feel that this documentary fits in more with the modes of ‘De Bromhead’, the reason for that is because the modes of Nichols suggests that a documentary at most times is pushed into one single category rather than having a number of different modes present like Bromhead.

This short documentary cant be considered expository and according to the ‘Nichols Mode’ only consists this style to be used in more of a formative style e.g. a television news programme, because this production contains a ‘Voice of God’ i cant conclude it to be that mode because it dose not use a specific narrator to form the voiceover, instead and very effectively Julian uses the commentators voices of past News broadcast presenters that state the recent political headlines in America, much like ‘Bromhead’s’ Cinematic approach to documentary which makes this production seem more emotionally gripping and makes you empathize for the people living in that country.

I do not feel that this is a poetic form in any modes regarding Bromhead and Nichols because even though this production still forms visual associations regarding the mass of people surrounding the area of Manhattan the city inwhich the president lives. The visual images even though they are connected to the mass protest it is not used to structure the whole documentary and this productions dose follow a certain storyline rather than trying to avoid it. Not my President definitely dose not fall into a participatory or observational mode as the filmmaker is never seen, I could see why some could consider it as an observational as the filmmaker does observed the crowd however he does shoot the camera in his direction 53 seconds in.

I feel like this short documentary falls in more with Bromhead’s mode of Discursive  as it gives out facts of information regarding the crowds on the streets of America in various different parts, the shots taken are also quite cinematic rather than just having a serious journalistic visual portrayal.
